The Challenge
The homeowners wanted to transform a tired rear reception and kitchen into a light, practical heart of the home. We needed to deliver a generous 6m apex rear extension that opened the house to the garden while making the existing ground floor work harder.
As with many London and Kent properties, the challenge was to gain volume and light without overwhelming the original character of the house, and to coordinate structure, glazing and services so that the finished space feels effortless day to day.
Our Solution
We developed a clean, vaulted apex form to maximise natural light, carefully setting the ridge and eaves so the new volume sits comfortably against the existing house. Internally, we rationalised walls and openings to create a single open‑plan family zone, with defined areas for cooking, dining and relaxing that all enjoy views out to the garden.
Throughout the process we guided the clients through planning, structural coordination and technical detailing, keeping drawings clear for both the contractor and building control. The result is a calm, modern extension that feels tailored to how the family live every day.
